Research in Motion (RIM) just cannot seem to get a break nowadays. Its Playbook tablet has sold poorly and their smartphone market share continues to decline under powerhouses, Google's Android and Apple's iOS phones. Now a judge in New Mexico has ordered RIM to change the name of its OS that is still in development.

A restraining order issued in New Mexico has barred RIM from using the BBX moniker for its next generation OS, for two weeks while a judge evaluates Basis International's charges. If you don't know who Basis International is, they are the makers of BBX, a software development tool used in mobile devices.

You would have thought that someone at Research In Motion, perhaps one of its I.P./Copyright attorneys, to do some actual research on the name before laying claim. For now, RIM has renamed the OS, Blackberry 10. Curiously, the current release of RIM's OS is Blackberry 7. More on this case as more information becomes available.
