Samsung attacks Apple's iPhone, cult-like culture
Samsung, with its bestsellers thus far in the Galaxy S II smartphone series, is now openly mocking Apple and its sub-culture through a funny new commercial.
The commercial premise stems from the famous lines that often permeate city streets around Apple Stores and other locations before the release of an Apple iPhone. The carefully crafted dialog in the commercial speaks volumes in so many ways. Each line is a jab at a different segment of the populace that makes up the Apple sub-culture.
One exchange in the video perfectly showcases the Apple mantra that surrounds Apple products. “I think two people just left” one woman says as she looks down the line, this is followed quickly by the guy next to her saying “why would they be leaving when we are only nine hours away”. The video suddenly goes to another guy that sums it up “Yeah, this is an event”. Only a few companies and their brands have produced such a loyal following that waiting in line to purchase a new product is an event.
Now this video does show Samsung’s jealousy of Apple and its fans, but the reality of it hits home for people “on the outside looking in”. There is one thing to be a fan and another to be a blind zealot. Fans will buy a product in time, but zealots want to be the very first to own. Fans buy a product because they believe it will fits their needs based off past experience. Zealots buy simply to exhibit their purchase to people around them.
I hope this amazing stab at Apple and its cult-like culture is the beginning of a new series of Samsung commercials. At the core of the video is a funny take on how most people not in the walled garden perceives Apple and its fandom.
