Life is Short

Written by Frank R on . Posted in The Other Slices

Twisted metal and shards of broken glass litter the street. A single spark can ignite the gasoline pouring out of the punctured gas tank at any moment. Two lives potentially gone in a mere second, but somehow chance or fate, or whatever you want to call it, intervenes. It goes without saying but I will say it anyway, life is short.

Recently, two friends of mine barely escaped a major car accident that left their Ford Explorer totaled. While I can only imagine what went through their heads as the vehicle flipped over multiple times, I am sure they will now see life differently. I, myself, have some near death experience that had transformed me from a greedy life grinder to someone that appreciates the singular moments that most simply ignore.

How would you live your life if in the back of your mind you know you shouldn’t be alive? One moment you’re looking forward to events or things months or even years ahead. The next moment a single rose evokes strong emotion that overpowers you. I now take love much more seriously and I feel like I can finally give someone the rare “true love”.

I wish everyone had a near death experience. I know, that seems strange but it is the only way to live one’s life. You’ll stop taking things, people and your own life for granted. You’ll see and appreciate things for what they are, not for what they can be. You’ll love and live without regret.

P.S. Emily and Lori, I am so happy you two made it out alive and without too much damage. Welcome to the “Here and Now”.
